NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S: A premium standard zoom to conquer any scenario

Nikon added a fast, standard zoom to the Z series’ premium S line of lenses, with the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S. This versatile FX (full-frame) lens is built around the ultra-wide diameter of the mirrorless Z mount and takes full advantage of the system’s incredible light-gathering properties, resulting in high imaging performance and edge-to-edge sharpness.

Versatile zoom range and fast aperture

The NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S is built to capture special moments, from weddings to jobs in the advertising industry. This all-round zoom – with its fast f/2.8 aperture – opens up a plethora of photographic possibilities. A constant f/2.8 aperture is available throughout the entire zoom range and this fast attribute means handheld shots in low-light situations are easier to capture in crisp detail.

Supreme imaging performance

Thanks to its nine rounded aperture blades, the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S is able to capture appealing and natural-looking bokeh. The lens comprises 17 lens elements in 15 groups, including two Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) elements to minimise chromatic aberrations and four Aspherical Elements to combat croma. It also benefits from Nikon’s Nano Crystal Coat and ARNEO Coat, to mitigate internal reflections and reduce ghosting and flare.

Shooting in any weather

Outdoor photographers are inevitably exposed to the elements. As you’d expect from an S-line lens, the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S is designed to keep dust and moisture out, thanks to extensive weather sealing. The rear and front elements are clad in Nikon’s fluorine coating, which repels water, dust, dirt and grease, keeping the optics cleaner for longer and making it easier to remove grime with a microfibre cloth.

Helpful OLED display

The OLED display on the top of the lens barrel adds to the optic’s functionality. You can use the adjacent DISP button to cycle through a variety of options: the selected aperture, focal length or depth-of-field and focus distance. This is particularly useful when the camera is positioned close to the ground, and when low-light situations make it difficult to read physical markers.

Configurable operation

On the left side of the lens you will find a function button (L-Fn). One of 21 different functions can be assigned to the button via your Z camera’s Custom Setting Menu. These include, saving the focus position, AF lock, and toggling RAW mode (if you’re only shooting JPEG). You can even assign it to bring up My Menu, so you can quickly access your most-used menu settings without ever removing your eye from the EVF.

The customisation options don’t stop there; you also have the ability to assign your preferred function to the control ring. It can be used to focus, silently adjust the aperture or dial in exposure compensation (when using a compatible Shooting Mode).

A fast fixed aperture, versatile zoom range and pro-grade functionality allow the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S to excel in a huge variety of shooting scenarios. Pair this with its high imaging performance and premium S-line quality, and it’s a lens that will appeal to enthusiasts and professional photographers alike.
